Many folk believe they have dragon breath. Are you one of them? It’s really quite tough to smell your own breath. One good secret’s to lick the back of your hand wait thirty seconds and then smell the back of your hand or you might just ask a best friend. So what causes the smell? In 85 – ninety percent of cases the smell is due to the bacteria that are living on the back of the tongue. These bacteria live in the hairs on the back of the tongue and produce hideous chemicals when they break down particles of food which in turn produce the smells.

These are called unpredictable sulphur compounds or VSC. If you look at the rear of your tongue you’ll notice it is rougher and it has more hairs this is normally the area where the malodor originates from. It is mostly worse in the morning because spit production slows in the night and your mouth dries out. Spit is good as it washes away the bacteria and particles of food and also it has heaps of goodies in it which slow down the activity of the bacteria we promote treating this by utilizing a tongue scraper to get rid of the bacteria from the back of the tongue (see OrafreshTongue Scraper) .Sounds straightforward nevertheless it can make folk gag initially. Some times of the day are rather worse than others so try to find a point when it is less complicated for you to do that.

After time folk usually get more used to it & can then move gradually further back on their tongue. It is fantastic what comes of the back of your tongue! For most impressive results this is going to be done once per day and your tongue scraper should get replaced at least six monthly.

After using the tongue scraper for some time (two weeks daily), try stopping it & you’ll be ready to notice the often fouler taste in your mouth. We then advocate the usage of a mouthwash containing chlorine dioxide (see Closes II Mouthwash). The chlorine dioxide neutralizes the CSV’s and kills the bacterium that produces them, it doesn’t just cover a smell it loses the cause. This mouthwash doesn’t contain alcohol which most other preparations do thus it doesn’t dry the mouth and reduce spit flow which may possibly make dog breath worse if used over a long time.

Sophisticated or protracted periodontal illness may cause the same smells. The bacteria are living in pockets down between the tooth and gum and this does must be treated by your dentist. Have a look at our Tooth brushing Strategy and have I got Gum Illness ? To make certain you understand the method and are cleaning in the right way. In about five percent of cases the smell can be due to sinus infection and post-nasal drip, with similar kinds of  bacteria concerned. This an area for your medical expert if it is persistent so please see your Health practitioner if this is a regular occurrence for you In about three percent of cases a long-term infection in your tonsils might be the reason for dragon breath.

If you have eliminated all of the causes then again check with your Health practitioner if  your tonsils are concerned. Extremely barely some medical problems may cause bad breath. How do I get fresh breath? Scrape the back of the tongue as a matter of routine once per day ensure you have the right brushing method and inter dental cleaning methodology See your dentist to dispose of the likelihood of gum illness Drink masses of water to keep you mouth damp and saliva flow ordinary Gnawing sugar free Wrigley’s gum will raise your spit flow (see Decadent and Biotin Products) watch out as this may increase jaw / joint issues. Use
Closes II once a day to reduce bacteria numbers and eliminate CSV’s.
