Whether you are a college students who has put on the “Freshman Fifteen”, a mom who just can’t seem to get back to her pre-pregnancy weight or a man wanting to re-live his glory days when he had an athletic physique. You may not even fit into one of those categories, but let’s face it, you probably do fit in the “wannabe” category. I “wannabe” thinner, I “wannabe” in a bikini this summer, I “wannabe” able to fit into my clothes, I “wannabe” able to show -off my six-pack. No matter what we “wannabe”, it usually has to do with weight in one way, shape, or form! The question is, how do we do it?

One day, I was looking at the cover of a “Men’s Health” magazine that had Brady Quinn, then a senior quarterback for Notre Dame, with his shirt completely unbuttoned, showing off a gorgeous set of abs.I couldn’t help but admire them out loud, noticing his work-out was is the issue. My husband overhears me, only to comment, “It’s his genes, not everyone who does his workout is going to look like that!” Come to find out, he is right and wrong with this comment. The fact is, we are not genetically programmed for 6-pack abs. We are programmed to store fat in particular places and burn fat in a particular way. The closer you are to your ideal weight, the more you can control your belly fat.

Exercising just for abs will not give you a flat stomach and a 6-pack, especially if you have belly fat to lose. Abdominal exercises without proper Nutrition is a dead end. It will only make your abdominals stronger underneath your belly fat! Cardio exercising in general is key. There are so many gimmicks and gadgets out there to buy, but unless you are ready to change some things about your lifestyle, the only thing you’ll get from buying things to help you is clutter and less money!

So it comes down to this and this alone: Commitment. I know, that word scares a lot of people, but just like in a relationship, if you are not committed to making it work, it won’t. Are you committed to making some changes so you can achieve your dreams? If the answer is no, then you might as well stop reading this article and go watch a movie! If you are ready to seriously commit, here are the facts to getting fit and staying fit Click Here!.

It does mean you can’t expect to eat doughnuts for breakfast, double burger with all the trimmings and fries and a pop, and go home to make fried chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner, and expect to have a beach body! Alcohol, soda, fast foods and processed foods are not on the healthy eating list. If you don’t have good will-power, get the unhealthy junk out of your house before you start. Healthy eating is having a balance of the food groups, vitamins and minerals. Body weight and shape are a balance of energy intake (calories) and output (calories burned from activity and exercise). Basically, to lose 1 pound a week, you need to reduce your calorie intake by 500 calories everyday compared to your current intake. Start a food journal, eat like you normally would and count calories. See what your total is and then see where you could alter that day with some healthier options to lower your calorie in take. Increase your veggies as they increase your metabolism as well as eating eggs. Increasing your fiber intake is also crucial to your healthy eating plan.

Secondly, take a measurement of your waist. I know, who wants record of that, but it will be good for you to see what it is, and see how the changes you are making change that number. Too much fat around your middle can increase your risk for heart diseases and diabetes, so it is worth the changes for your Health as well as how you want to look. Keeping hydrated is also important. Not only does it flush away the bad things in your body, it makes you feel fuller so you don’t eat as much. Eating more often, with healthy options keeps your metabolism up.
