DietDoes your stomach hang over the waistband of your pants? It’s okay if it does and it is okay to admit that you wish it wasn’t there. Nobody wants to have belly fat. Whether you are male or female you know that having “a gut” is something that you want to avoid having.

But where does it come from? And how do you get rid of it? Is there a secret to burning stomach fat? Is there a quick fix? What can you do to flatten your stomach and, hopefully, get those “six pack” abs that are so fashionable right now? Here are a few of the secrets to burning stomach fat that you might not have known about:

1. There is more to burning stomach fat than doing massive amounts of sit ups. Sit ups only work one area of your body which might help to reduce the appearance of belly fat, but the fat will probably just relocate to other areas of your body. The last thing you want is to have a super muscular stomach when the rest of your body fat is still easily visible.

2. Cut your calories! One of the best ways to burn stomach fat is to implement a weight loss program. The easiest way, mathematically, to lose weight is to limit your calorie intake each day to an amount that is less than the amount of calories you burn with your daily exercise routine. If you burn more calories than you take in, you will lose weight. Of course, losing weight does not mean the automatic gain of muscle tone.

3. To gain muscle tone, you need to begin a regular exercise regimen. Make sure you work your whole body. Fat cells aren’t particular about where they sit. If you only work on your abs, the fat cells in another area of your body will probably start to expand, so you want to make sure that you are working all of your muscle groups–especially your cardiovascular muscles! Getting in shape isn’t always fun, but it’s worth it!

4. Eat foods that are low in saturated fats and, well, fat in general. Stick to lean meats and lots of fruits and vegetables. Cut down on the junk food. Basically, follow the food pyramid and stay away from the snack aisle. There are plenty of fantastic treats that don’t involve sugar, tons of salt or fat! Even better, the healthier foods are far lower in calories than any of the processed foods you’d normally opt for.

These are just a few of the simple secrets to burning stomach fat. It doesn’t sound all that hard, does it? We know that they aren’t the secrets that you were hoping for, but believe it or not, a healthy lifestyle (eating a healthy Diet and making sure to get regular exercise) is the best way to flatten your stomach and get rid of stomach fat!
